Your previews stay local.
Viewport Lab processes the website you choose inside your own Chrome browser. It does not upload website content, input events or screenshots to the developer.
Privacy policy · Effective November 2, 2026What the extension handles
When you start a simulation, Viewport Lab uses Chrome's debugger API to resize the selected page's viewport, emulate device pixel density and input, and display a connected live preview. This involves local processing of:
- The selected page's rendered content and image frames. These may include any information visible on that page.
- The target page's URL and title, and browser/viewport information needed to identify and configure the simulation.
- Clicks, pointer movement, scrolling, keyboard input and pasted or composed text that you enter into the preview. These events are forwarded to the original page to perform the interaction you request.
- User-requested PNG screenshots, which are saved to the location chosen by your browser.
The extension does not separately extract passwords, payment details, medical records or private messages. A website's visible contents and fields can nevertheless contain sensitive information. Only simulate pages and export images that you intend to handle on your device.
What is stored and for how long
Device preferences and custom screen profiles are saved in chrome.storage.local. Temporary per-tab simulator settings and browser-environment state are saved in chrome.storage.session and are cleared when that simulation ends, its source tab closes, or Chrome clears extension session storage. Live preview frames are transient; they are not saved as an extension browsing-history database.
Custom profiles can be deleted in the extension. Removing the extension clears its Chrome-managed local storage. Exported PNG files are ordinary local downloads and remain until you delete them.
Sharing and network activity
Viewport Lab does not transmit website contents, page images, screenshots, URLs, form input or browsing activity to the developer, an analytics provider or an extension-operated server. It does not sell user data or use it for advertising.
Your original website continues to make its normal network requests, use its own login/cookies and receive interactions that you send to it. Those requests are governed by that website's policies and Chrome settings. If you choose to contact support, your support provider receives the information you voluntarily send; do not include sensitive screenshots unless you intend to share them.
Permissions
- Debugger: native viewport metrics, optional mobile user-agent/color-scheme settings, input forwarding, live frame capture, verification and PNG export on your selected tab.
- Side panel: the device library and simulation controls beside the preview.
- Storage: local preferences, custom profiles and temporary session state.
- Active tab: identify the website you select when invoking the extension.
Chrome displays a debugging notice during an active simulation. Use Stop, close the preview, or use Chrome's Cancel debugging control to end it. The extension does not remove website security headers. Its bundled code and assets run locally; it does not download executable extension code.
Limited Use
Viewport Lab's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the user-initiated responsive-testing, input and screenshot features described here.
Changes
This policy will be updated if the extension's data practices change. Any materially different access or use will be disclosed in the extension before it occurs.
